Thomas Shiozawa-Bayer, MD, PhD, is anatomy specialist at the Institute of Clinical Anatomy and Cell Analysis, Department of Anatomy, Eberhard Karls University Tuebingen. He is a postdoctoral fellow and associate lecturer and the executive board member of the German Association for Medical Education (GMA e.V.) since 2003. As member of the University Senate committee of academic affairs in Tuebingen, and member of the advisory board for medicine and the health sciences at the accreditation agency ACQUIN (Bayreuth, Germany), he is also involved in quality assurance of higher education.

His main research interests cover the (clinical anatomy) of the female pelvic floor, the clinical anatomy of the musculoskeletal system, as well as medical education research in the dissection course and in curriculum development. He is teaching coordinator of the Department of Anatomy, and was appointed teaching coordinator by the Medical Faculty Tuebingen from 2010 to 2012 to reform the pre-clinical curriculum. He helped developing the peer teaching program with the Competence Center of University Teaching in Medicine, which was awarded with the Young Educators Award of the German Association for Medical Education in 2011. Recently, he started research projects introducing professionalism teaching during the dissection course, as well as research on the possibilities of teaching via live streaming (BMBF grant 16DHL1031 OpenTeach).

Dr Thomas Shiozawa-Bayer was elected the new AMSE Treasurer on December 10th, 2020.
