Prof Viktor Riklefs

Viktor Riklefs is a highly accomplished biomedical researcher and educator with over 22 years of experience in the field. Currently serving as the Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and International Cooperation at Karaganda Medical University in Kazakhstan, he has held various leadership roles, including Vice-Rector for Academic Work and Director of Simulation Center. Dr. Riklefs holds a PhD in Medicine (Physiology) and an International Master’s in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University, Netherlands. His academic journey began with honors in Biophysics and Biomedicine from Karaganda State Medical Academy.

Dr. Riklefs has been instrumental in advancing medical education, both in Kazakhstan and internationally. He has led numerous research projects, including those funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan, and has participated in several Erasmus+ and Tempus capacity-building initiatives. His research focuses on adaptive learning environments, simulation-based instruction, and the development of soft skills in medical students. He has over 100 publications, with 60 dedicated to medical education, and has presented at numerous international conferences. In 2017, the simulation programme of Karaganda Medical University, headed at that time by Dr. Riklefs, received an AMEE ASPIRE Award in Simulation.

Dr. Riklefs is an active member of several professional associations, including the Asia-Pacific Biomedical Science Educators Association (APBSEA) and Association of Medical Education in Europe (AMEE). He has organized workshops and webinars on medical education and simulation for educators across Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries.

Dr. Riklefs is also skilled in statistical analysis, web design, and programming. His contributions to medical education and research have significantly impacted the field, making him a respected figure in both academic and professional circles.

Viktor Riklefs was elected member of the AMSE Executive Committee in 2024.
