Otomar Kittnar is Professor of Physiology at the 1st Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. He has graduated at the Medical Faculty of Charles University in 1978 and he started teaching Physiology already during his postgraduate Ph.D. study at the same faculty in 1980, so his experience in medical education is more than 40 years long. Moreover, he started working as a supervisor of postgraduate Ph.D. studies in 1998 and, since then, he has led 11 students to successfully defend their dissertation theses. In addition to his educational and scientific work in the field of Medical Physiology he had been working as a doctor in the Clinical department of Internal Medicine for ten years (state specialization exam from Internal Medicine passed in 1993).

Since 1997, he has been involved in the management administration of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, first as a member of the Academic Senate, and then from1999 as a Vice-Dean and a member of the Dean´s Board. Simultaneously, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty since 2002. As a Vice-Dean, he was successively in charge of the study issues of foreign students, the issue of international relations of the Faculty and, most recently also of the strategic development of the Faculty.

Regarding his international experience he completed study and work stays at the Institute of Cardiology of Armenian Academy of Sciences in Yerevan, Armenia, at the Institute of Biomechanics of University of Mie in Japan, in the Clinical Department of Cardiology of University of Marseille in France, and in the Laboratory of Medical Informatics of University of Manchester in Great Britain.

Otomar Kittnar was elected member of the AMSE Executive Committee in 2024.
