Dr. Andrea Tamás is a full professor at the Department of Anatomy at the University of Pécs.

In 1997, she was admitted to the University of Pécs Medical School. In 1999, she joined the Department of Anatomy as a student researcher under the supervision of Dr. István Lengvári and Dr. Dóra Reglődi.

In 2003, she graduated with a medical degree summa cum laude and received the Gyula Mestyán Award for her outstanding work in student research.

She then began her Ph.D. work at the Department of Anatomy, her main research topic is the investigation of the effects of PACAP in animal models and clinical conditions. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in 2006, habilitated in 2013, and was appointed full professor (D.Sc) in 2025.

During her 25 years of research work, she has led numerous independent research projects and actively participates in and organizes national and international scientific conferences. She is a member of several national and international scientific societies and has served on the board of the Hungarian Anatomical Society, among others.

She has received numerous scientific awards for her research work, including the Hungarian Academy of Science Bolyai Plaque, the Pécs Academic Committee Scientific Award, the Lenhossék Mihály Memorial Medal, the Környey Award and the Faculty has also awarded her the Pro Facultate Medicinae commemorative medal in silver.

She is actively involved in the education of the next generation of scientists, having supervised the work of 48 student researchers, who have achieved outstanding results at student conferences. For these achievements, in addition to numerous awards for her work as a supervisor, she has been awarded the Master Teacher Gold Medal and the Pro Cura Ingenii Award for Outstanding Talent Development. To date, seven Ph.D. students have graduated under her supervision, and she is currently supervising the work of six Ph.D. students.

In addition to her research work, she has been actively involved in teaching anatomy, histology, embryology, and neuroanatomy in English and Hungarian for more than 20 years. She has received the Excellent Teacher Award on several occasions. She is the president of the Circle of Demonstrator Students in University of Pécs Medical School and member of Undergraduate Research Committee, and secretary of the Scientific Committee. She regularly works as a reviewer and expert consultant and places great emphasis on talent management and the organization of educational programs.

As a result of his scientific work, she has published 199 scientific papers, 1 book, and 11book chapters, with an impact factor of 533.958. She has 3,258 citations and a Hirsch index of 42.

Dr. Andrea Tamás was elected member of the AMSE Executive Committee in 2025.
