Prof Athanasia Printza

Athanasia Printza  is Professor of Otorhinolaryngology-Phoniatrics, at the School of Medicine, at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. She joined the AMSE EC as an auditor in 2021. She was Head of the Organizing Committee of the AMSE2024 Conference in Thessaloniki. She is a member of The European Academy of Sciences and Arts, member of the Panel of Experts of “The DO’L Medical Educator Award”, Oxford Centre of Medical Education, Fulbright Scholar, President of the Hellenic Society of Phoniatrics and Swallowing disorders and Deputy President of the School of Medicine,  AUTh, Committee of International Relations.


Athanasia Printza obtained a Medical Degree (AUTh), MSc in Medical Research (AUTh), MSc in Speech and Swallowing Research (University of Newcastle, UK), and PhD on the diagnostic value of stroboscopy (AUTh) and pursued continuing professional development in educational methodology and bioethics. She had residency training in Greece and England and post-qualification training in England and Germany. She received Scholarships of excellence for undergraduate, MSc studies, PhD and postdoc research and awards of excellence for International Teaching, and International Recognition and Impact (Faculty of Health Sciences), the Thessaloniki Ambassador Award (TCB) and awards from the Romanian ENT Society.


Athanasia Printza initiated the Advancing Patient-centricity in Medical Education and Healthcare initiative in the School of Medicine, AUTh. She is engaged in extensive interdisciplinary teaching and research in outcome measures, medical education, patient-centered health care, shared decision-making, swallowing, voice, olfaction. She works closely with patient organizations to promote patient empowerment and to foster transformation of the healthcare and health education ecosystems to best meet the health needs of our communities. As a 2025-2026 Fulbright Scholar, hosted at the Stony Brook Medicine, SUNY, Athanasia Printza engaged in the development and evaluation of learning experiences and educational activities to foster shared health decision-making and patient-centered care. Athanasia Printza is a dedicated educator committed to fostering innovation, student and patient agency in learning and healthcare and enhancing societal accountability of medical education.
