ORPHEUS Conference 2024 – AMSE Newsletter – 2024 – No. 5

Dear friends and colleagues, dear members of AMSE,

In this newsletter, I would like to inform you that on 18-20 April 2024 the David Tvildiani Medical University, AMSE member school, hosted the

ORPHEUS Conference 2024
„Innovative Strategies and Concepts for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences”

in the beautiful city of Tbilisi, Georgia with the support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia and under the patronage of ORPHEUS. ORPHEUS stands for Organization for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System. The event coincided with the 20th Anniversary of the above-mentioned association.

More than 200 representatives from 29 countries participated in the Conference, including the Heads of Organizations significant worldwide as keynote speakers:

• Professor John Creemers – President of ORPHEUS;
• Professor Ricardo León-Bórquez – President of WFME;   
• Professor Harm Peters – President of AMSE;
• Professor Subha Ramani – President of AMEE;
• Professor Stephane Berghmans – Founder of the CoARA Coalition and author of the EUA Agreement, EUA-CDE;
• Professor Menico Rizzi – ANVUR – Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Centers, Member of the Steering Board of the Global Initiative CoARA;
• Professor Bob Harris – Academic Vice President for Doctoral Education at the Karolinska Institute, former President of ORPHEUS;

In parallel with the above-mentioned conference, on, the Permanent Conference of Rectors of Georgia was held on April 18 under the title “Agenda of the Day of Research and Innovation EUA for 2027: Seizing the Moment, Stimulating Changes”. Almost all members of the conference were present at it. Professor Stefan Bergmans – the founder of the CoARA coalition – spoke at the conference.

In addition, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia with Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari with Professor Ricardo León-Bórquez, WFME, Professor Harm Peters; AMSE and Professor Subha Ramani, AMEE.

The next ORPHEUS Conference, ORPHEUS 2025 will be held in Croatia on 10-12 April 2025.
