AMSE–EMSA Collaboration – AMSE Newsletter – 2024 – No. 10
Dear friends and colleagues, dear members of AMSE,
In March of 2024, the Association of Medical Schools in Europe and the European Medical Students’ Association (EMSA) initiated a collaboration through which, one appointed EMSA representative was welcomed into AMSE’s Executive Committee as an ex-officio member, to act as a liaison between the associations and to facilitate future projects and joint initiatives.
In this newsletter, I would like to inform you about the
AMSE – EMSA Collaboration
To commemorate the beginning of the collaboration, EMSA invited AMSE to join its 2024 Spring Assembly, which took place in Tübingen, Germany from 9 to 12 May. On this occasion, the AMSE Treasurer, Dr Thomas Shiozawa-Bayer from the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen addressed the General Assembly, gave a presentation about AMSE and reinforced our shared commitment for meaningful collaborative activities in the coming years. Dr Shiozawa-Bayer also, in the lead up to the General Assembly, worked with EMSA’s Medical Education Pillar Director, Beyza Erkan, and her Pillar Team, in co-creating an EMSA Medical Education Pillar Session, entitled: “Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Medical Education”, where medical students from Europe got the chance to discuss strategies of ensuring high-quality medical education, including the significance of accreditation processes and the importance of quality assessment.

By the same token, upon AMSE’s invite, two EMSA representatives, Luka Delak, EMSA’s Vice President of External Affairs and Stella Goeschl, EMSA’s Medical Education Liaison Officer, will attend the AMSE 2024 Conference in October in Thessaloniki, Greece. On this occasion, EMSA has been invited to actively participate in several sessions and talks, as well as in the AMSE Student Task Force and the Conference Scientific Committee.
Going forward, AMSE and EMSA will aim to bridge the perspectives of future healthcare professionals with the expertise of medical education institutions. By working together, we will aim to align academic curricula with the evolving needs of healthcare, promote best practice in medical training, and advocate for policies that benefit both students and educators. This partnership also promotes opportunities for networking, innovation, organisational development and a shared commitment to enhancing the quality and accessibility of medical education across Europe.
