The ‘Ins and Outs of EPAs’ courses via AMSE – AMSE Newsletter – 2025 – No. 5

Dear friends and colleagues, dear members of AMSE,
I am pleased to announce a new educational opportunity available through AMSE:

The Ins and Outs of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) courses have been developed and refined over several years by a dedicated group of health professions educators and researchers led by Professor Olle ten Cate from Utrecht in the Netherlands. “The Ins and Outs of EPAs” courses have become a well-recognized standard in EPA-focused faculty development worldwide. AMSE is proud to host the EPA course on its website. The EPA course content and operational implementation will continue to lie with the Ins and Outs of EPAs Courses Oversight Committee, chaired by Professor ten Cate.
EPAs have gained wide recognition as a practical framework for implementing competency-based medical education. The “Ins and Outs of EPAs” course offers in-depth and practice-oriented insights into the concept and application of EPAs in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Through a series of structured online sessions, participants engage with experienced educators, learn and reflect on the integration of EPAs in curricula, and explore ways to design, implement, and assess EPAs within diverse institutional contexts.
Two versions of the course are currently available. The English-language International Online EPA course is available to participants worldwide, including those in the AMSE WHO Europe region, and is conducted by an international faculty team. In addition, a German-language version of the course is available.
Comprehensive information on course structure, schedules, and registration fees can be found on the AMSE website under the “Courses” section (www.amse-med.eu/courses).
Participants from AMSE member schools benefit
from a 10% reduction in course fees.
I would like to invite you and your colleagues to take part in this outstanding learning opportunity and to join a growing international community of educators who are shaping the future of competency-based medical education by using EPAs in health professions education.
From Berlin,
Harm Peters
