AMSE Newsletter – 2022 – No. 4

Dear friends and colleagues, dear members of AMSE,

This newsletter is covering two AMSE initiatives in the area of accreditation.

I. AMSE member survey. Quality assurance is an important field in higher education, in particular in medical education. With the decision of the US Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates to only accept applications from graduates of World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) accredited schools or faculties from 2024 on (https://www.ecfmg.org/accreditation/), the discussion of accreditation gained more traction in the last years. After first contacts with accreditation agencies and pilot procedures, AMSE wants to engage further in this field, and provide more opportunity and information to its members. To get a better overview on the needs and wishes of the AMSE members, we would like to ask you to complete the appended survey. We appreciate your participation.

II. Accreditation under the WFME scheme. AMSE cooperates with ASIIN to support the AMSE member schools in the pursuit to accredit their medical degree program under the scheme of the WFME. ASIIN has applied for recognition by WFME. Part of the recognition process is the observation of an ASIIN accreditation procedure by experts from WFME. We are now looking for medical schools that are willing to conduct an ASIIN/AMSE accreditation procedure that can be observed by WFME. ASIIN is offering a special financial arrangement for AMSE medical schools that will take part. For more information, please see the AMSE-ASIIN letter enclosed. If your school is interested, please respond by June, 30th, 2022.
