ABOUT THE HOST

The AMSE Conference 2023 will be hosted by Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iasi. The Medical University of Iasi is the successor of the former Faculty of Medicine of Iasi, whose foundation was initiated in 1860 and completed during the reign of Carol I in the year 1879. This public medical university bears the name of Grigore Teodor Popa, a prominent professor and intellectual, forerunner of neuroendocrinology.

Today it is recognized as one of the most important higher education institutions with medical profile in the country, owing to its more than 143 years tradition in the training of medical professionals and its current positioning in the top tier of advanced research and education universities by the Romanian Government.

The University educates more than 13000 undergraduate and postgraduate students within 4 Faculties (General Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Medical Bioengineering) and a Doctoral School. The international outlook of UMF Iasi pertains to the continuously growing share of international citizens (over 2900 international students coming from 84 countries) among the students who choose the University as their Alma Mater.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The AMSE Conference 2023 will be held in the beautiful city of Iasi, Romania. Iasi (pronounced “Iàshi”) is located in the extreme north-east of Romania, in Moldovia, one of the historic regions of Romania. Built on seven hills, Iasi is a vibrant city, loaded with history, beautiful architecture, nature and greenery and its people are welcoming and friendly. Once called the ‘city of a hundred churches’, Iasi is bursting with centuries of architectural creations. Yet besides the monasteries, theatres and other historic buildings, this eclectic place has botanical parks, big squares and both communist-era concrete structures and gleaming modern shopping malls. As with its shopping scene, Iasi’s innumerable eateries, pubs and lively clubs depend on its robust university population. Over 50.000 students coming from all over the world are enrolled in the 5 state universities across the city making this little corner of Romania unexpectedly cosmopolitan.

The Opening Ceremony of the conference will take place in the historic Palace of Culture, which is one of the most iconic landmarks of Iasi. The Palace of Culture is a magnificent building that was constructed in the early 20th century and features a unique blend of architectural styles, including Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. The palace houses several museums, including the Museum of Art, the Museum of History, and the Museum of Ethnography, making it an ideal venue for the conference’s opening ceremony.

The Nicolae Leon Building, which will host the majority of the conference activities, is a modern and well-equipped facility that can accommodate a large number of participants. The building features spacious conference rooms, comfortable seating, and state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, making it an ideal venue for keynote speeches, panel discussions, and workshops.
