The Award
The Peter Dieter Leadership Award is the highest recognition awarded by the Association of Medical Schools in Europe. The Award is given to outstanding faculty from European medical schools. It is awarded to individuals who have taken on significant leadership roles and made exceptional contributions to the field of health professions education with a profound impact in Europe.
The winner of the Peter Dieter Leadership Award will be presented during the annual AMSE conference.
The awardee will be invited to give a plenary presentation during the conference on a topic of her/his own choice related to the conference theme during the conference.
The nomination procedure
Two letters of nomination are expected; each clearly stating the current or former faculty status of the nominee and why she/he should receive the award, including what special contributions he/she has made to the field of health professions education.
Nominations will be accepted from deans or senior faculty members of AMSE member schools, members of the AMSE Executive Committee and from previous award winners.
All nominations should be submitted directly to the AMSE secretariat via office@amse-med.eu.

About Peter Dieter († 2019)
Peter Dieter was a leader in medical education with a reputation both nationally and internationally. He received formal training in biochemistry and was appointed a full professorship in medical biochemistry at the medical faculty of the Technical University of Dresden in 1997.
Peter Dieter advanced medical education in Germany, Europe and worldwide. From 1999 to 2007, he was appointed Dean of Student Affairs for the undergraduate medical programme at the Technical University of Dresden. He led the project ‘Reform of the Dresden Medical Programme in Alliance with the Harvard Medical School, USA’. Peter Dieter is one of the founders of the German Master Medical Education Programme, in which he taught leadership.
Peter Dieter served as President of AMSE from 2014 to 2019. During this period, AMSE made significant contributions to the accreditation of medical schools and the improvement of medical training standards in Europe.
