Sergo I. Tabagari is Vice-Rector in Strategic Management and Development at David Tvildiani Medical University, where he was Dean from 1995 to 2014 and Professor of Biochemistry from 2005 until present; also, he is Head of Department of Medical Biochemistry at the same University. Graduating Tbilisi State Medical University at 1970, he started his career from Department of Biochemistry at Tbilisi State Medical University as Postgraduate Student 1971 to1973, after this he was in TSMU Assistant of Professor from 1973 to 1983 and then he was Associate Professor in Department of Biochemistry at the same place.

From 1981 to1985 years, he was Senior Scientist in Department of Experiment and Clinical Pharmacology at Institute of Pharmacology, Tbilisi. In Moscow, Russia, he was Research worker at Institute of Nutrition Russian Medical Academy from 1988 to 1990; Sergo Tabagari was Vice-Dean (Scientific) of Medical Faculty at Tbilisi State University from 1990 to 1996. At the same time, he was Consultant at the Republican Center of Scientific Medical Information Ministry of Health (1991 to 1995) and Head of Laboratory of Neurochemistry at the Scientific Research Institute of Neurology (1992 to 1995).

From 1994 to 2000 Sergo Tabagari was involved in the Special Monitoring Program – Black Sea Environmental Program and was Head of National Focal Point. At the Institute of Hygiene, he was Deputy of Director from 1993 to 1997 years, where he continued his career from 1997 to 2006 as a Leader Scientist. From 2007 until 2010 he was Member of the NATO Research and Technology Organisation.

For now, Sergo Tabagari is Consultant in the Laboratory Medicine at Medicine Center “CITO”; besides he is expert of the Georgian National Scientific Foundation (2006). From 2010, he is Head of Georgian Association of PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences. At the Karaganda State Medical University he is Honorary Professor from 2013 until now.

Sergo Tabagari was elected member of the AMSE Executive Committee in 2016.
